If you watched the recently released online poker documentary Bet Raise Fold you were no doubt touched by the story of Danielle “DMOONGIRL” Andersen. Saturday morning Full Tilt Poker announced they have signed the married mother of one to a Main Event sponsorship.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet let’s get you up to speed on Andersen. Prior to Black Friday she was working on increasing her visibility in the poker community after turning her attention from the online cash games to big buy-in live tournaments. She seemed poised to land a sponsorship from one of the major online poker sites when Black Friday brought it all to a screeching halt.
That’s changed now.
“Danielle’s story in Bet Raise Fold was equal parts gut-wrenching and inspiring. Her story of supporting her family through poker speaks to the modern generation of poker players,” said Dustin Iannotti, Full Tilt Poker’s Senior Manager of Pro, Celebrity & VIP Marketing. “We are so happy to sponsor Danielle into the main event and feel it is a natural follow-up from her story detailed in the documentary.”
While the deal isn’t quite the long term peace of mind Andersen was looking for, she recognizes that it’s a step in the right direction. She’s also happy to represent the site where she honed her skills and became enough of a cash game beast that reigning WSOP Main Event champ Greg Merson called her the best female poker player in the world.
“The majority of my growth and development as a poker player has occurred on Full Tilt Poker. I’m honored, excited, and appreciative for the opportunity to represent them during the 2013 Main Event,” said Anderson.
Andersen will don the Full Tilt Poker patch as she plays Day 1B of the 2013 WSOP Main Event.
