Two starting flights at the European PokerStars Tour Deauville Main Event produced 782 players and 419 of them will move on to Day 2. The field tallied a €3,753,600 prize pool with €770,000 going towards first place. David Ostrom leads the field with 212,600 to Day 2.
Chasing Ostrom are Casey Kastle (204,500), Ahmed Abd El Fatah (185,000) and Karim Abdelmoumene (175,800). Ben Warrington, Nicolas Levi, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Sandra Naujoks, Lex Veldhuis, Steve O’Dwyer, Freddy Deeb, Jason Koon, Jake Cody and Jose “Nacho” Barbero are still alive in the event.
It wasn’t all roses for everybody though as Kevin MacPhee, Liv Boeree, Bryn Kenney, Vicky Coren, Alex Kravchenko, Ludovic Lacay, Jeff Sarwer and Davidi Kitai were all eliminated from the tournament.
PokerStars Team Pro Boeree reportedly was battling food poisoning but still managed to register at the eleventh hour. She was eliminated holding [Ax] [Jx] on a [Ax] [Ax] [9x] flop when her opponent turned a full house holding pocket kings. Boeree’s boyfriend, MacPhee, was eliminated minutes later holding A K to Jean Pierre Petroli’s pocket kings.
Cody, the newest PokerStars.net Team Pro, doesn’t have the largest stack to bring into play but was on the good side of a monster hand. The action was unclear but a modest pot was built by the the time the board completed 8 7 8 7 K. Cody’s opponent checked, he bet and got called by the unknown player. Cody tabled 8 8 for flopped quads and took the pot.
Corin was eliminated when Shahin Baharan opened and she shoved holding pocket queens. Baharan called with A 6 and the board ran 8 T 5 4 A, eliminating Corin with the ace on the river.
In the closing levels pocket aces became a ticket to the rail. Pierre Neuville punched his ticket when he found Joseph Jazzar’s pocket kings. The board ran J 3 T 9 Q and Jazzar made a straight. Then former November Niner James Akenhead when he jammed his aces into Paul Guichard’s A K. Two kings on the flip gave Guichard trips and Akenhead was left crippled.
