Day 2 of the European PokerStars Tour Deauville Main Event began with 419 returning players and after six levels of action only 154 players will return for Day 3. Andrei Stoenescu grabbed a substantial chip lead on the last hand of the night and will return with 485,600 chips to play with.

Lurking behind Stoenescu is EPT Loutraki champ Zimnan Ziyard with 380,200. Outspoken British pro Sam Grafton bagged up a top ten stack with 311,400 and he’ll be joined by Jason Koon with a healthy 275,100. Other notables moving on include Mathias De Meulder (186,000), Salvatore Bonavena (133,000), Pascal LeFrancois (118,000), Freddy Deeb (93,000), Fabrice Soulier (80,000), Sandra Naujoks (73,500), Steve O’Dwyer (35,000) and Vanessa Rousso (34,200).

Those that did not survive the action today include Lex Veldhuis, Jake Cody, Jon Eames, Nicolas Levi, Gaelle Baumann, Marvin Rettenmaier, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Elisabeth Hille and JC Alvarado.

The last hand of the night saw Stoenescu open for 5,000, Konstantinos Nanos raised to 13,000 and Stoenescu played back with a raise to 29,000. Nanos re-raised 2/3 of his stack and called all in after Stoenescu set him in. Stoenescu took the hand with trip aces and bagged up a 100,000 chip lead over the field.

2012 BLUFF Player of the Year Marvin Rettenmaier busted early in the day. Paul Guichard opened for 4,500, Rettenmaier shoved for around 27,000, Arnaud Mattern called and the Guichard moved all in for 82,000. Mattern tanked for a good while before throwing his hand away, Rettenmaier tabled A K and Guichard turned up pocket kings. The board ran 3 9 6 2 5 and Rettenmaier was eliminated.

Pocket kings would hold for everybody as Cody’s kings were outflopped by Bruno Le Garrec’s A K. The board ran 5 4 A 8 J and the newest PokerStars Team Pro was eliminated. Levi found his exit when he made a straight holding Q J but Tobias Peters rivered a nut flush holding A 3 on a A T 8 J K board.

Play for Day 3 will resume at noon local time and the field should hit the money bubble early in the day. The field is 29 eliminations away from the bubble and play should speed up after it bursts.
