Another stop, another record-breaking field for the European Poker Tour. Day 1B of the PokerStars.net is in the books and the French stop brought in 891 runners, besting Season 6’s turnout of 768 players. As predicted, Day 1B brought in even more runners than Day 1A with 472 compared to Day 1A’s 419 people.

The big names seem to have waited until the second starting day to take to the felt. The Team PokerStars Pros came out in droves, including Vanessa Rousso, Daniel Negreanu, Jonathan Duhamel, Luca Pagano, Arnaud Mattern, Liv Boeree, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Nacho Barbero, and the new addition to the team, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom. Most of those players ended up on the rail by the end of the day, as only Grospellier, Barbero, and Blom survived to Day 2 of play.

Not only did Blom survive, he thrived in his first EPT as a member of the PokerStars family. Blom ended the day fifth in chips with 144,700. He is not too far behind chip leader Philippe Massias, who ended the day with 175,600. While that count was good enough to claim Day 1B chip lead, he will begin Day 2 fourth in the counts behind the trio of Frenchmen who dominated Day 1A. French singer and media personality Patrick Bruel finished the day second in chips with 153,100.

Other notable Day 1B survivors include Olivier Busquet, Bruno Fitoussi, Fabrice Soulier, Cornel Andrew Cimpan, and Kevin MacPhee. By day’s end, only 272 players from the starting field remained. They will combine with the 250 survivors from Day 1A on Thursday for Day 2 action.

The top 128 players in this event will each earn at least a €7,500 payday. The winner will take home €880,000 (roughly $1.2 million).
