The third and final starting session of the 2013 WPT Legends of Poker was, as expected, the largest by some distance. The 328 players nearly matched the combined fields of Days 1A and 1B to push the total number of entries to 669 with registration remaining open until the start of play on Day 2.
Frenchman Fabrice Touil, who has a WPT final table to his credit already, overtook Barry Hutter to claim the overall chiplead with 272,400. Ryan Goindoo (269,000) will start Sunday’s play in second, with noted poker commentator David Tuchman (190,400), David Daneshgar (178,500), Scotty Nguyen (159,400) and Ryan Riess also coming through with strong Day 1B performances.
A slew of other notable pros found their ways through, including David Sands, Brent Hanks, Paul Volpe, Liz Lieu, Dan O’Brien, Ali Eslami and Taylor Paur, who each bagged a higher than average stack. Andy Frankenberger, Garrett Greer, Ashton Griffin, Allen Cunningham, Gavin Griffin, Prahlad Friedman, Josh ‘JJProdigy’ Field and recent internet celebrity Mimi Luu will be there too.
The prizepool is not yet set, with the remaining field currently sitting at 270. Players have one final opportunity, whether they’ve previously registered or not, to put up the $3,700 buy-in and enter the fray on Day 2 with a 25 big blind stack.
It remains an option for Matt Waxman, Tim West, Joe Tehan, Jim Collopy, Eric Baldwin and defending champion Josh Hale, just a few of the almost 200 players who bit the dust Saturday. Waxman Tweeted a photo of both himself and Baldwin at the casino cage, indicating they’ll both be back in the mix when play resumes.
