The bestbet Jacksonville Fall Poker Scramble is the first World Poker Tour event of a busy stretch to end 2013, and they’ll crown a champion Tuesday night. If Jared Jaffee has his pick, he’ll be the one adding his name to the Champions Cup.
Jaffee’s earned well over $1 million in his career, but a major title has eluded him on several occasions. His best finish on the WPT is fifth, which came at the 2010 Legends of Poker, and Jaffee also has two career WSOP final tables. After a big Day 3, Jaffee takes a commanding chiplead into Tuesday’s final table – he has more than one third of the chips in play.
His closest competition is Margo Costa, the lone woman at this final table. A win by Costa would be the first Main Tour title by a woman in the WPT’s 12 year history. It’s bunched up in the middle, with Costa closely followed by Michael Horchoff, Corrie Wunstel and Blake Purvis. Randall Price is the short stack with just over 20 big blinds.
There were 26 players when Day 3 began, with early chipleader Cong Pham going out before the field was even reduced to two tables in 21st. He was followed out by Jacob Bazeley (18th), Jeff Madsen (15th) and Matt Glantz (12th). When play was reduced to a single table of nine, David Diaz was looking to make his second career WPT final table and Ryan Eriquezzo saught his first, but they would go on to finish ninth and eighth, respectively.
With Matthew Oswalt’s elimination in seventh, the final table of six was officially set. After three long days of poker, the remaining players are guaranteed at least $47,468 and have a chance at $25,749 and the title. Play will resume at 2 pm local time Tuesday in Jacksonville, with a live stream of the final table running on a 30 minute delay.
