Gags, Lupo and Satellite Winners Dominate Sunday Major Action

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval and Delaware Gov. Jack Markell reached an

While there were plenty of headlines to follow through the weekend’s Sunday Major action, the biggest news to come out of the US online poker markets this week was that Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval and Delaware Gov. Jack Markell reached an interstate poker network agreement that will see the player pools of both states combined on WSOP.com over the next few months.

The mid-week headlines in both New Jersey and Nevada were dominated by off the felt news, as both states announced the dates for two major online tournament series, with partypoker’s New Jersey Championship of Online Poker II scheduled to run simultaneously with the Borgata WPT Spring Poker Open from April 16-26 and WSOP.com’s Spring Poker Series set to run in both NJ and Nevada from April 12-19.

While the NJCOP II schedule and it’s $1,000,000 guaranteed total prize pool certainly generated some buzz, the biggest news this week without a doubt came from WSOP.com as it launched the first interstate poker network in the new US market, combining the player pools of Nevada and Delaware.

That combined player pool is still in a “soft-launch mode” and it will be interesting to see the effect on WSOP.com tournament field sizes, guarantees and prize pools over the next few weeks and months once it does officially go live.

Mid-week headlines aside, this weekend’s action was dominated by previously unknown players parlaying satellite wins into huge Sunday Major victories and players in the 2015 Online Player of the Year races continuing good stretches of results including two final table appearances by Michael Gagliano and Daniel “centrfieldr” Lupo.

New Jersey

partypoker Sunday $50,000 Guaranteed

Buy-In: $200
Players: 288
Prizepool: $53,280

  1. andend – $10,656
  2. ned_plimpton – $7,107
  3. chipirwin – $5,062
  4. Gr8.2b.in.NJ – $4,262
  5. MarloStanfield – $3,570
  6. bobbyv64 – $3,037
  7. Mayor-Max – $2,504
  8. mrdeal23 – $1,971
  9. KrookedTyrant – $1,439

The only five figure winner this weekend was “andend“, who had just over $5,000 in career earnings before winning a $5 mega rebuy satellite yesterday afternoon, parlaying that into a $10,600 Sunday Major victory, a cool 2,000 time improvement on his initial investment.

But, the biggest name at this final table was without a doubt tournament professional Michael Gagliano or “ned_plimpton” who jumped into the NJ OPOY top twenty this past week and will certainly see himself continue to rise in those rankings after making two Sunday Major final tables this weekend.

partypoker Sunday $10,000 Guaranteed

Buy-In: $100
Players: 155
Prizepool: $14,105

  1. mrdadio488 – $3,004
  2. jusreid30 – $2,045
  3. centrfieldr23 – $1,537
  4. Big_Daddy – $1,269
  5. schaf4206 – $1,086
  6. supremetny – $931
  7. HenryIam – $776
  8. Dimes4Life – $635
  9. CharlieBrown – $494

This was a who’s who of NJ OPOY Contenders as four players in the top twenty were represented at this final table, with Daniel “centrfieldr23” Lupo notching a podium finish to continue a red hot run over the last two weekends.

The stacked final table didn’t seem to bother “mrdadio488” though as he earned the first Sunday Major title and biggest score of his career, adding another four figure result to his March haul as he’s cashed for over $1,000 five times this month.

WSOP Sunday $35,000 Guaranteed

Buy-In: $200
Players: 201
Prizepool: $37,185

  1. Smacster – $9,854
  2. LuckySpewy1 – $5,764
  3. PlantLeaf – $3,291
  4. youngkoi – $2,529
  5. RiverRat – $2,157
  6. dawonderboy7 – $1,785
  7. JennyB – $1,339
  8. TWABMM – $892
  9. chewbroccoli – $632

Much like partypoker $50,000 Guaranteed Sunday Major winner “andend”, “Smacster” didn’t have much of a tournament resume coming into the weekend, never cashing for more than $600, but that all changed quickly as he outlasted a 200 player field to make just shy of a five figure score.

It was a big contrast in both resumes and experience at the top as online regular “LuckySpewy1” had to accept a 2nd place finish, a result that moved him close to the $200,000 mark in terms of career online earnings.

WSOP.com Sunday $10,000 Guaranteed

Buy-In: $100
Players: 139
Prizepool: $12,649

  3. SizeLarge – $1,151
  4. Ntp2001 – $898
  5. OohKILLemm – $772
  6. Humskip1847 – $645
  7. cantbeatyou – $493
  8. purejersey – $316
  9. addyup23 – $288

After failing to overcome a stacked partypoker $10,000 Guaranteed final table earlier in the day, “schaf4206” broke through in the WSOP.com version of that event, earning just under a $3,500 score, piggybacking off a Saturday night victory in the $2,500 Guaranteed NJ High Roller.

888.com $10,000 Big Sunday

Buy-In: $200
Players: 58
Prizepool: $10,730

  1. Eddiegood86 – $3,219

  5. sps81087 – $869
  6. tank2379 – $762
  7. TheKing420 – $655
  8. KorbenDallas – $547

The two headline acts to this weekend’s Sunday Major action both made the Big Sunday final table, with Daniel Lupo earning another podium finish and Michael Gagliano, playing under the handle “KorbenDallas” notching a smaller score.

But, it was “Eddiegood86” keeping the trend of satellite winners as he won not one, but two satellites, to earn his spot in this $200 buy-in event, making the jump from the $3 tournament to a $25 tournament, eventually parlaying those wins into a $3,200 score.

Nevada

WSOP.com Sunday $15,000 Guaranteed

Buy-In: $200
Players: 136
Prizepool: $25,160

  1. mnbass1 – $6,919
  2. jchak – $4,026
  3. diamondgirl – $2,290

  6. Sgt.Pepper – $1,283
  7. voffvoffvoff – $981
  8. DontBl1nk – $629
  9. eplefty15 – $453

The biggest news to come out of Nevada this week was clearly the interstate poker network with Delaware and it’s clearly seemed that that news has already created a bigger market, as the lone WSOP.com Sunday Major bested a $25,000 prize pool for the first time since early January.

mnbass1” was the biggest beneficiary of that larger prize pool, besting a 136 player field to make just under a $7,000 score, claiming his first Sunday Major victory since going back-to-back in May of 2014, while also moving him over the $100,000 mark in terms of career online earnings.

Later this week, BLUFF.com will be bringing you another player feature as we profile contenders for both the New Jersey and Nevada 2015 Player of the Year titles.
