While official numbers have yet to be released, the Season XIII World Poker Tour Five Diamond World Poker Classic is guaranteed to have the largest field for this event since Season VI.
The unofficial total field size is 582 – far outpacing the 449 entries that played in Season XII. Just under half of that field remains, with Iulian Iacob bagging the biggest stack at the end of Day 2 with 288,700.
Six players bagged more than 200,000, including WPT Champions Club members Daniel Negreanu and Jared Jaffee. Negreanu entered five times on Day 2, but a double through Galen Hall just before the close of registration started a run that saw Negreanu eventually climb into the ranks of the chipleaders as he attempts to repeat at this event, which he won in Season III.

There are a lot of other big names near the top of the 210 or so who advanced to Day 3, including Keith Lehr (186,000), Dan O’Brien (175,000), Robert Mizrachi (172,000), Aaron Massey (166,400), Yevginiy Timoshenko (163,400) and Faraz Jaka (140,100). Newly announced Ones to Watch Jose Serratos, Garrett Greer and Justin Zaki all made it through, while Candace Collins and Daniel Strelitz weren’t quite so lucky. Brian Benedict, who won his way in via ClubWPT, also fell on Day 2.
Official prizepool information will be released on Wednesday afternoon, but with the big bump in field size the winner is almost certain to see a bigger payday than the $1.1 million Dan Smith won in 2013. That player could, in fact, be Smith again, as he, Antonio Esfandiari and Joe Hachem join Negreanu as former champions still in the hunt after Day 2.
Play is set to resume at 12 pm PST Wednesday, with five 90 minute levels scheduled for the day.
