Memorial Day Weekend Keeps Overlay Trend Alive

While the other big weekend events missed their prize pool mark this week, 888.com's lone Sunday Major hasn't hit it's $10,000 guaranteed prize pool in months.

While the other big weekend events missed their prize pool mark this week, 888.com’s lone Sunday Major hasn’t hit it’s $10,000 guaranteed prize pool in months.

Holiday weekends mean one thing for the New Jersey online poker schedule, overlays.

The last major wave of overlays was during Easter weekend and Memorial Day Weekend was no different, as the ‘Jersey Shore’ beaches and bars drew better than partypoker or WSOP.com ever could.

It will be interesting to see if this overlay trend, which has been a few weeks in the making with smaller and smaller fields leading up to this weekend, continues through the rest of the summer.

But, despite the smaller fields and overlays, there were some big winners. A few players walked away with five figure scores and a handful of OPOY Contenders made some deep Sunday Major runs.

New Jersey

partypoker Sunday $50,000 Guaranteed

Buy-In: $200
Players: 215
Prizepool: $50,000

  1. SmellsLikeIrish – $10,000
  2. leinad – $6,800
  3. pure_reason – $4,950
  4. jasonstigs22 – $4,100
  5. Rick_Grimes – $3,550
  6. MrWheat – $3,050
  7. stephhub31 – $2,550
  8. bigobc19 – $2,050
  9. tnlee212 – $1,550

$10,000. The amount that “SmellsLikeIrish” walked away with after winning his first Sunday Major title. That’s also the amount that the partypoker $50,000 Guaranteed overlaid, easily the biggest prize pool miss in recent New Jersey memory.

That overlay didn’t deter Daniel Buzgon from continuing his weekend success, notching another deep final table run for the second straight week.

partypoker Sunday $10,000 Guaranteed

Buy-In: $100
Players: 117
Prizepool: $10,647

  1. hags021 – $2,332
  2. mj23style – $1,586
  3. ratboy33 – $1,224
  4. youngkoi – $1,011
  5. pokerypf – $852
  6. sizzlinbetta – $724
  7. Allyoucaneat – $607
  8. jmzit2u – $490
  9. EvEnSoUt – $383

While the partypoker $10,000 Guaranteed didn’t overlay, it barely beat it’s promised prize pool.

That smaller prize pool made this victory worth a little less for “hags021“, after he won this exact event in early March, but he’d still take home a $2,300 score.

WSOP.com Sunday $40,000 Guaranteed

Buy-In: $200
Players: 162
Prizepool: $40,000

  1. BruceLeroy – $10,800
  2. DamnFlopLag – $6,300
  3. mbpage – $3,600
  4. smoothhustler – $2,800
  5. RiVerSpiKer – $2,400
  6. SizeLarge – $2,000
  7. DCOOP – $1,520
  8. eyeAMeye – $960
  9. Ashisit – $680

BruceLeroy” stole the headlines in WSOP.com’s bigger Sunday Major event but again, the real storyline from this weekend was the massive overlays.

The numbers were more or less identical to partypoker’s overlay figures, with the event missing it’s mark by close to $10,500 and “BruceLeroy” taking home a few hundred dollars more for first.

At the bottom of the final table results, perhaps the biggest name in New Jersey poker over the last few months, as NJ OPOY Contender Asher “AnthonyMason” Conniff made his first Sunday Major final table since winning the WPT World Championship last month.

WSOP.com Sunday $10,000 Guaranteed

Buy-In: $100
Players: 142
Prizepool: $12,922

  1. 2Due4U – $3,554
  2. G00dLuckSir – $2,068
  3. Godzilla – $1,176
  4. M_Dickstein – $917
  5. Mona143 – $788
  6. gary1960 – $659
  7. dom2307 – $504
  8. im_that_guy – $323
  9. smoothustler – $233

In the only tournament to not overlay or barely hit the prize pool, “2Due4U” was evidently ‘too due’, outlasting a nearly 150 player field for the Sunday Major title.

His $3,500 score will dwarf in comparison to his $20,000 result from this year’s opening GSSS II series, which was the biggest online score in New Jersey for the first half of 2015.

888.com $10,000 Big Sunday

Buy-In: $200
Players: 37
Prizepool: $10,000

  1. im_that_guy – $3,500
  2. hop0019 – $2,200
  3. Gmoney27 – $1,500
  4. DuhMiz66 – $1,100
  5. centrfieldr5 – $900
  6. NoXcape – $800

Another weekend, another overlay in 888.com’s lone Sunday Major.

Player’s don’t seem to be minding though, as the small fields have been creating some pretty decent value, with “im_that_guy” getting the most of it this week.

He notched a $3,500 score, while NJ OPOY Contenders Daniel ‘centrfieldr’ Lupo and Jesse ‘NoXcape’ Elliott also notched small score at the final table.

Later this week, BLUFF.com will will be bringing you another player feature as we profile contenders for both the New Jersey 2015 Player of the Year titles.
