New Jersey Guarantees Continue To Struggle, WSOP Helping Nevada Crush

Both the World Series of Poker and WSOP.com’s Online Championships hit their mid-way points this weekend, while overlays continued in New Jersey.

Both the World Series of Poker and WSOP.com’s Online Championships hit their more or less midway points this weekend, with another handful of bracelets being awarded in Las Vegas and a handful of WSOP.com rings being awarded in New Jersey and Nevada.

While the hardware awarded in both of those states has been consistent, the trends of field size and prize pools has been going in opposite directions over the last few weeks.

New Jersey has struggled to hit some of it’s bigger tournament guarantees, while Nevada has seemingly coasted past them, likely helped by so many out-of-state and out-of-country players joining the Nevada regulars during WSOP season.

That trend shouldn’t be alarming to New Jersey residents and players, as the same phenomena occurs during major Borgata Poker Open and the simultaneously run GSSS and NJCOP series.

New Jersey

It’s been a few weeks since the biggest Sunday Major winners came from New Jersey but that’s exactly what happened this past weekend, as “nowitsover” earned the biggest score of his career, as he took down the partypoker $50,000 Guarantee.

The event continues to fail to hit it’s advertised prize pool but “nowitsover” won’t be complaining that much, as he pocked just under $8,400 for his first ever Sunday Major victory.

Thatgood45almost went back-to-back in this smaller partypoker Sunday Major but he had to settle for a second place finish. That’s because “Donate_here” stole the headlines and first place, earning just under $2,500 for the win.

Also making a podium finish and his first appearance in the Sunday Major recap over the last few weeks was OPOY Contender Mike “JohnnyDrama” Haberman, who notched a $1,300 score for his third place finish.

Following “nowitsover”, “NJMPoker” continued the trend of big New Jersey scores. He’d earn just under five figures for his WSOP.com Sunday Major win.

That result is the biggest of his career and the same can be said for “RonSwanson” who took second and nearly doubled his best previous online finish. “NYR9414” rounded out the top three and added to his lengthy tournament resume.

WSOP.com Online Championships $10,000 Guaranteed Event 44 (Re-Entry)

  8. boom81boom – $670
  9. Adversity45 – $479

While the most recent WSOP.com Online Championships win was one of the smaller Sunday Major titles in terms of overall prize pool, “T1mB3y_B33F” still had to battle through a stacked final table to score the win.

He did, moving over the $100,000 mark in terms of career online earnings in the process, outlasting Daniel “juice” Buzgon and OPOY Contender Jesse “No_Xcape” Elliott who finished 3rd and 4th respectfully.

888.com $10,000 Big Sunday

888.com’s Big Sunday chronically sees the biggest overlays in New Jersey and while the prize pool may not be the biggest compared to some other Sunday Major events, “DamnFlopLag” figured out a way to increase his RIO this past weekend.

He won a $25 online satellite earlier in the day and then just a few hours later, parlayed that into a $3,500 victory.

Nevada

WSOP.com Online Championships $20,000 Guaranteed Event #44 (Re-Entry)

Buy-In: $200
Players: 122
Prizepool: $29,785

  8. T54_T97s – $833
  9. ROARR – $625

The trend of the majority of the players at Nevada final tables earning their biggest career online results, which is most likely attributable to so many out-of-state and out-of-country players joining the Nevada regulars during WSOP season, continued for another weekend.

The biggest of those winners, and a new owner of a WSOP.com Online Championships ring, was “abadcaseofda”. He earned just under $8,400 and was easily the biggest winner in Nevada.
