Annie Duke Wins NBC Heads-Up Event

It was a Cinderella story for Annie Duke at the NBC Heads-Up this year as she broke a long streak with no major poker results and did so by beating one of her best friends in the game, Erik Seidel, in the final round.  It couldn’t have been scripted better and it was one of the feel-good moments of the year.

Michael Mizrachi Wins Player’s Championship

If Duke’s win was a feel-good moment, Mizrachi’s victory in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship was a full blown epic tale of redemption.  Grinder’s first bracelet kick-started his improbably WSOP run, culminating in a fifth place finish in the Main Event and causing people to question whether or not he is one of the greatest players ever.

Phil Ivey Wins 8th WSOP Bracelet

Even though Ivey’s been in the WSOP winner’s circle several times before, him winning a bracelet is a feat that never seems to lose its luster.  Maybe the lure of his eighth win might have a little something to do with those rumoured multi-million dollar prop bets though…

Tom Dwan Finishes Runner-Up in WSOP event

In what was certainly the most closely-watched runner up finish in years, Tom Dwan had the entire poker community watching with baited breath as he came up just shy of a WSOP bracelet and winning enough prop bets to potentially break the high stakes world.
