The death of the Macau Businessmen has, apparently, been greatly exaggerated. Richard Yong, one of the three famed ‘Macau Businessmen’ from the high stakes cash games in Macau, defeated Ole Schemion heads-up to win the 2015 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge Saturday in Melbourne.

Yong spent part of the past year dealing with legal issues related to his arrest alongside fellow Macau Businessman Paul Phua, in relation to an illegal World Cup betting ring he was allegedly involved with. In early Decemeber, Yong plead guilty to a misdemeanor and agreed to pay fines totalling $500,000 and was placed on five years probation. That didn’t seem to be on his mind at all Saturday though as Yong outlasted a final table that included not only Schemion but Justin Bonomo, Scott Seiver and Erik Seidel as well.

On the final hand Yong made a call that left some of the game’s top players impressed. Yong limped from the button and Schemion checked to see a flop of 7 6 2. The young German checked to Yong who bet 150,000. Schemion raised all-in for 1,500,000 and Yong called instantly, tabling J T and found himself ahead of Schemion’s 9 8. The 6 turn and 4 river were no help for Schemion and Yong’s jack-high call stood up as the best hand.

The AU$1,870,000 ($1,452,803 US) win is the single biggest tournament score of Yong’s tournament career. His previous best was the $1,237,333 he took home for finishing eighth in the 2012 WSOP Big One for One Drop. Schemion earned AU$1,350,000 for his runner-up finish for the third seven-figure score of his career.

Scott Seiver finished third, earning AU$1,000,000 for his third six-figure cash of 2015. At the 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure he finished eighth in the Super High Roller and fifth in the High Roller. He has earned just over $1.4 million US already this year.

Justin Bonomo, Jason Mo, Erik Seidel and Dani Stern finished fourth thru seventh respectively. Alex Trevallion, who won the $25,000 Challenge and then finished 33rd in the Main Event, had to settle for an eight place finish.

The last marquee event of the 2015 Aussie Millions, the LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge, gets underway on Sunday with many of the same players expected to play.
