When the clock ran out after 10 levels of play at the World Poker Tour Seminole Hard Rock Showdown on Day 1B, 150 of the 337 players who started the day remained. Those 150 will join the 75 players who survived Day 1A for a 225 starting field on Day 2.
Shaun Deeb, a WPT Season XI Ones to Watch ended the night in the position of chipleader with 235,400. When Day 2 begins Deeb will be second in chips, only behind Day 1A chipleader Donald Nicholson, who finished last night with 355,100. David Diaz built his stack to the second largest in the field on Day 1B, bagging up 191,400. Matthew Mendez, Gil Morgensztern, WPT Borgata Fall Poker Open winner Ben Hamnett, Robert Alberro, Micah Smith, Corey Burbick, Paul Volpe and Mark Sandness rounded out the top 10.
Deeb scooped in a sizeable pot after tournament staff declared only four more hands would be played for the night and in doing so, eliminated Corey Ziedman just shy of Day 2. With the board reading JJ65 Zeidman checked his option. Deeb bet 6,500, Zeidman raised to 15,000 and Deeb three-bet to about 50,000. Zeidman called holding J3 for flopped trip Jacks. But Deeb was ahead with 66 for a flopped full-house sixes full of Jacks. Zeidman was drawing to a three for a better full house or the last remaining Jack for quads, but the river was instead the T and Deeb chipped up to the top of the leader board.
Anthony Lombard, who won his seat in the tournament through a satellite last night, climbed to the top of the chip counts during Level 6 but the 21-year old ended the night with 135,000, just out of the top 10.
With both Day 1s in the books, the prize pool was officially tallied. The final 54 players left standing will take home no less than $10,190 from the $2.5 million prize pool. The winner will add $660,395 to his or her wallet.
Matt Giannetti, Matt Salsberg, Carlos Mortensen, Ravi Raghavan, Scotty Nguyen, Matthew Waxman, Vanessa Selbst, Joe Kuether, Christian Harder, Andy Philachack, Kathy Liebert and Ebony Kenney were a few of the Day 1B survivors who will be back for more action on Day 2.
Former champions Andy Frankenburger, Steve Brecher, Noah Schwartz, Paul Klann, Shawn Cunix and reigning WPT Seminole champion Tommy Vedes were all eliminated. Athanasios Polychronopoulos, AJ Jejelowo, Will Failla, Abbey Daniels, Marsha Wolak, Kurt Jewell, Tom Marchese, Mukul Pahuja were among the many who joined the former champs on the rail.
