Steven Madara and Daniel Buzgon Master Sunday Major Wins

Master’s Champion Jordan Speith wasn’t the only person taking home hardware this weekend, as WSOP.com’s Spring Poker Open kicked off to award the first of eight Champions Rings.

Last weekend, Easter Sunday created some of the first widespread overlays of the year in both New Jersey and Nevada but that trend didn’t last long, as Masters Sunday saw order restored in New Jersey as nearly every tournament hit it’s guarantee, including the opening event of WSOP.com’s Spring Poker Series.

The Spring Poker Series is a weeklong series that is bookended by two massive events, with this weekend’s $30,000 guaranteed re-entry event crushing it’s lofty mark. That prize pool balloons to $40,000 next weekend but even though some of the mid-week events are smaller in stature, each winner of a SPS event will take home a WSOP.com Champions Ring, similar to the rings awarded for victory in WSOP Circuit events.

That ringwas the only hardware awarded this weekend in poker but while Jordan Speith was getting fitted for his green jacket, some of the bigger names in online poker were making pushes towards their own Sunday Major victories.

New Jersey

partypoker Sunday $50,000 Guaranteed

  1. numbnuts – $10,249

  3. leinad – $4,868

  7. RiverMan – $2,409
  8. jdkim0113 – $1,896
  9. Ezzed – $1,384

In a bigger than usual weekend, three Sunday Major winners walked away with five figure scores, with “numbnuts” being the first. That result is easily the best of his online career, as his best previous cash was a mere $1,000 score from earlier this month.

While “numbnuts” took home the title, the biggest name at this final table was “leinad“, or Daniel Buzgon who also plays under the handles “juice” and “yeayeaflush”. He had to settle for a podium finish, before finally claiming victory in 888.com’s lone Sunday Major later on.

  6. DaHammer49 – $979
  7. talk5050 – $816
  8. KevinRACKS – $667
  9. ChicagoBears85 – $519

With all due respect to the players at the partypoker $10,000 Guaranteed final table, this was the only group that didn’t include any big name players who have solidified spots near the top of the Online POY rankings.

But, in terms of this tournament, “stopNmargot” is starting to become a household name, winning for a second time this year on Sunday and for a fourth time overall with those victories totaling close to $12,000 in earnings in 2015 alone.

  6. oldmanRAD – $1,920
  7. PoBoy1 – $1,440
  8. GaryGG1950 – $960
  9. WilliamJLH – $680

While the first Sunday Major winner to walk away with a five figure score this week was making the biggest tournament score of his career, the same can not be said about “No_Xcape” as he may be one of the most decorated players in New Jersey, with well over $150,000 in career online earnings.

Much like partypoker’s $50,000 Guaranteed, there was another big name on the podium, as “jakep474” added to his lengthy resume and notched a result that will certainly help him continue his push into the OPOY top 20.

While the world was watching one of golf’s biggest names capture golf’s most prestigious title, “stevenmadara” was doing the same in the world of New Jersey online poker, claiming the first WSOP.com Champions Ring for the Spring Poker Series and taking home a nice $10,000 score to boot.

He had to hold off a charge from some stiff competition, eventually besting OPOY Contender Kevin “sofckinsick” Campbell heads up for the title.

888.com $10,000 Big Sunday

Buy-In: $200
Players: 49
Prizepool: $10,000

  1. yeayeaflush – $3,200
  2. AnthonyMason – $1,800

  5. benthegreat – $830
  6. jerseyjosh – $730
  7. jackhi20 – $620
  8. LuckySpewy – $520

Prior to claiming his first major title at the Masters, earlier this week Jordan Speith was asked about the “run” he’s been on of late, referencing his string of good results leading into the year’s first major championship. Speith responded by saying it wasn’t a “run” and that this is how he “should be playing”.

Daniel Buzgon might respond the same way if asked about his recent Sunday Major results, after starting 2015 red hot and then cooling off over the last month, he seems to have regained that early form, making multiple final table appearances over the last two weeks and taking down 888.com’s lone Sunday Major, besting former OPOY leader “AnthonyMason” in the process.
