The World Poker Tour released the second half of their Season XII schedule Monday afternoon, and while the tournaments look similar to previous WPT offerings there are a few dramatic changes on tap for 2014.
The biggest story is, of course, the WPT Championship moving away from the Bellagio for the first time in the tour’s history, relocating to the Borgata in New Jersey. The dates are still to be determined, with late April the likeliest window, but the biggest news to break on Monday is that the buy-in has been reduced from $25,000 to $15,000. With the lower buy-in and the Borgata’s stellar record regarding field sizes in the last few years the field is likely to be the biggest the tour has seen for its banner event in some time.
There are six other WPT Main Event tour stops currently scheduled for 2014, the first of which will also be at the Borgata. The Borgata Winter Poker Open, which will run in the last week of January, will also be filmed for future broadcast. That will be followed by the Lucky Hearts Poker Open in Coconut Creek, Florida, one of two non-televised events in the second half of Season XII.
Then comes the WPT’s classic two event California swing, for the LA Poker Classic (March 1-6) and the Bay 101 Shooting Star (March 10-14). The Jacksonville bestbet Open, the other non-televised event in this half of the schedule, closes out March, followed by a trip to South Florida for the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown (April 11-17) for the last event before the WPT Championship.
“We are very excited about the depth and breadth of our Season XII schedule,” said WPT President, Adam Pliska. “We’ve taken great care to ensure all of our players – whether they’re on the Main Tour or in our WPT Regional or WPT National events – enjoy world-class experiences at premier venues around the globe.”
The WPT Regional and WPT National tour stops for 2014 were also released Monday, with domestic stops in Coconut Creek (twice), Tampa and Biloxi. There are also events scheduled for Denmark, London (twice), Newcastle and Brussels.
