WPT: Romanello Near Top of Day 1B Field in Venice

After drawing a small crowd on Day 1A, the World Poker Tour Venice event saw the turnout increase nearly threefold as 213 players, including 18 re-entries from Day 1A took to the felt for Day 1B action at the Casino di Venezia.

The Day 1B field drew more players and even more big names than the opening day of action did, including WPT winners Roberto Romanello and reigning WPT Venice champ Alessio Isaia.  Max Pescatori, Oleksii Kovalchuk, John Eames, and WPT Malta runner-up Cecilia Pescaglini all took part in the Day 1B action as well, but failed to survive the day.

Both Romanello and Isaia survived Day 1B and Romanello managed to amass 133,200 chips over the course of nine levels of action to end the day third in chips behind chip leader Rafaele Bertoluci and Fernando Cimaglia.  Bertoluci ended the day with 169,400 chips, which is good enough to put him second in chips overall headed into Day 2.  Day 1A chip leader Andrea Dato will begin Day 2 as overall chip leader and the only player with more than 200,000 chips.

Isaia finished the day just above average with 68,700.  Other notables among the 66  Day 1B survivors including EPT Loutraki winner Zimnan Ziyard (19,200) , Dominik Nitsche (42,800), Marvin Rettenmaier (76,700), recent third place finishr at WPT Marrakech Arnaud Mattern (92,900), and Ronnie Bardah (103,200).
